The Amate bookstore has by far the largest selection of English-language books and magazines in the city, stocking numerous Oaxacan and Méxican themed titles, in addition to a lot of other subjects. It also has a well-developed website with a shopping cart for ordering and shipping books (within México only). There's a sister Amate bookstore in the colonial city of Mérida, Yucatán.

Associated with the Café Grañen-Porrúa, this refined bookstore stocks mostly Spanish-language titles in a full range of subjects and a small selection of English publications as well. Also a good place to find CDs of contemporary and traditional Oaxacan music.
