Pharmacies

Pharmacies are everywhere in Oaxaca, especially in the Centro, where there seems to be one on almost every street corner. Most pharmacies will dispense most medications without a prescription.

In México, generic medications are usually easier to refill than name brands and medication names and dosages may differ there from back home. Just in case you need to get a refill while traveling, consult with your doctor to determine if there is a generic substitute for any medication you are taking. To ensure the correct medication and dosage is refilled, write this information down and hand it to the pharmacist or, even better, bring the empty container to be refilled.

Most pharmacies keep long hours and many stay open all night. At least one chain of stores, Farmacias del Ahorro, makes home deliveries. For home deliveries, call 515-5000.
