San Antonino Castillo Velasco, Oaxaca
Like Ocotlán, Santo Tomás Jalieza, and San Bartolo Coyotepec, Friday is market day in San Antonino Castillo Velasco. Go early, the vendors start packing it up by early afternoon.
The easiest way to get to the market from the center of Ocotlán is to walk there directly (about 10 minutes), along Pueblos Unidos, a street that cuts diagonal from behind the large, warehouse-like Mercado Morelos (northwest corner of the building) and ends up right at the front of the market, just south of the church in San Antonino. Alternatively, blue mototaxis shuttle back and forth between the markets (Mex$5) along this street. (When Pueblos Unidos enters San Antonino, its name changes to Albino Zertuche. Google Maps shows it as Pueblos Unidos the length of road.)
From the north side Ocotlán on the main highway into town, walk west (less than 10 minutes) on Avenida Castillo Velasco (well marked by signs labeled San Antonino, both north and south) until it ends at Hidalgo. Turn left (south) at the church and walk one block to the market. Or take one of the green mototaxis that are usually parked at the intersection to the main highway and Avenida Castillo Velasco on Fridays (Mex$5).
